Backflow Prevention

Effective January 1st, 2009, Suburban Water activated our Cross Connection and Backflow Prevention Program. Under this program all service connections that have cross connections are required to have an attached backflow prevention device and all backflow prevention devices are required to be tested annually by a certified backflow tester. Not all customers will be affected by this program Services that will require a backflow prevention device are:

  • All Services that have a sprinkler system
  • All services that have a secondary water source (water well) connected in series or parallel to water service from Suburban Water

All customers that meet any of the above criteria are required to have their backflow prevention devices tested by a certified backflow prevention operator by July 31st 2010. Any customers that fail to comply with the rules and regulations of the backflow and cross-connection program by July 31st 2010, will then been subject to a $100 dollar fine and water service will be disconnected until they comply with the backflow prevention and cross connection program. When having your backflow prevention device tested by a certified backflow prevention tester they are required to fill out a backflow prevention test report which can be found by clicking on the following link. This form must be filled out and returned to Suburban Water's office by July 31st, 2010.
